Toe Up

Since i finally finished Deb's vest, she's...ahem, allowed me to cast on her "Socks That Rock" yarn that she stood in a crazy insane line for at Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival back in May. Well, ok...i asked her to stand in the line and so Amanda joined her so she wouldn't be alone, while Carla and i sat and knit on a bench. That silly Amanda, she bought three hanks of STR at the time when she didn't even know how to knit socks yet. LOL! But i digress...

So, i cast on for Deb's new socks. Prior to casting on i asked her if she wanted just plain socks or if she wanted to look at patterns? She said plain was fine. So i had knit 20 rounds of a cuff and 6 rounds of the leg when i let her get on Ravelry and she started looking at patterns. Bad move! She found a pattern she wanted me to try. I made her frog her own darn sock. LOL!

She decided on "Widdershins" from Knitty.com. I think she just likes the name?!

Yeah well, she's forcing me to bite the bullet and learn how to knit "Toe Up". I don't mind telling you that it took me three or four tries to get started...and my increases on the toe looks a little wonky, i think...but i'm giving it a whirl. I've only gotten the toe increases and maybe an inch of the foot done. I'll work on more of it today. And maybe take a pic or two.

That's what's going on here.

Well you were worried about the sock pooling on Saturday. Now you can start fresh. And tag!!! Click over to my blog for why you have been tagged.

It takes a little time, but you will get the hang of toe-up... and love it.

I agree with Cookie. Toe-ups can be worth the perseverance. I love them! :)

I hate "toe up" socks (except for how when you say it out loud it sounds like "tore up!")

I just work the pattern backwards and do a cuff down sock. I really hate "toe up" and I see no useful reason for doing one, lol.

I started a pair of toe-ups -- 2 at once on two circulars. Had a terrible time getting them started. I'd like to try them again using the Magic Loop. I LOVE the Magic Loop method of knitting socks! I swear it's faster!

I hate toe-ups too, although I've only tried one. *cough* I'm going to frog it though because there'll never ever be a time when I want to make the second one. Good luck with yours, I'm sure it will be spectacular. I, also, thought mine wasn't going to turn-out right but it did. I just hate it arbitrarily I guess.

Did you know you can make two at once on DPNs? Using double-knit, which is much easier than I thought it would be. You'll be the Goddess of the SnB when you show all your friends though. :D

I'm glad that Deb is feeling well enough to pick out socks! Now you have no excuses for knitting her get-well socks!(hehehe!)
